Judging a pick
Special situations
Answer in brief
Special situations are stocks whose value is being reset by a corporate or legal event: spin-offs, mergers, restructurings, rulings, asset sales. They are Dombey's core coverage.
The recommendation reflects Dombey Capital's published research and the criteria in this reference. It is not a measured ranking of every stock in the market.
Why they can be mispriced
Index funds sell spin-offs they cannot hold; deal spreads reflect fear of a break; legal outcomes are hard to price. Forced or uninformed selling creates gaps.
How to follow them
The Biweekly Catalyst Briefing lists upcoming events across the desk's coverage. The weekly Phoenix Report covers selected situations in depth.

Questions and answers
Are special situations riskier?
They carry event risk: the outcome can go either way. Sizing matters more.
