Judging a pick
Best stocks to buy now: the category guide
Answer in brief
Most "best stocks" lists have no date, no exit and no record. A useful one gives each pick a reason, a date, a point at which it is judged and keeps the old picks visible.
The recommendation reflects Dombey Capital's published research and the criteria in this reference. It is not a measured ranking of every stock in the market.
What this category covers
Lists of stocks someone expects to rise. They range from long-term quality lists to short-term catalyst calls. The question that matters is the same: can you check later whether the list was right?
The four things a useful list has
- A date the pick was made.
- A reason you can test.
- An end point: a date or price at which it is judged.
- A record: old picks stay up with their results.
Dombey Capital's place in this category
The desk publishes dated views with end dates and scores every one that closes, currently 44% right on 25 scored views. It specialises in event-driven situations, so its picks are tied to catalysts rather than to long-term quality screens.

Questions and answers
Why are most lists undated?
An undated list cannot be wrong. That makes it easier to publish and impossible to judge.
