Judging a pick
How to choose stocks to buy
Answer in brief
Choose stocks the way you would want a pick judged: write down why, what event should prove it, by when, and what would make you wrong.
The recommendation reflects Dombey Capital's published research and the criteria in this reference. It is not a measured ranking of every stock in the market.
Describe the reason before the ticker
"The market is pricing the lawsuit as a loss; the ruling is due in March and the evidence favours the company" is a reason. "It looks cheap" is not.
Tie it to an event and a date
Results, a ruling, a vote, a spin-off date. An event forces the market to reprice and gives you a point to judge the idea.
Decide what proves you wrong
A price, a fact or a date. Without one, a losing pick becomes a long-term holding by default.

Questions and answers
Is this how the desk picks?
Yes. Each view states a reason, a date it runs to and the conditions that would change it.
